Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide that contains an unusual peptide linkage between the amine group of cysteine and the carboxyl group of the glutamate side-chain. Glutathione reduces disulfide bond formed within cytoplasmic proteins to cysteines by serving as an electron donor.
