Licorice extract is obtained from the root of the licorice plant. The plant grows up to 1m and blooms (violet/blue and white) in late summer.

The main harvest takes place in spring and autumn. The roots need 3-4 years to re-grow after the harvest.

The active substance of licorice extract is about 30 times sweeter than saccharose . Licorice extract naturally creates a typical sweet taste even at low dosage levels.

 Licorice Extract (succus liquiritiae) is the natural and concentrated juice which is obtained by water and steam extraction of the licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra L.). The main active component in the roots – glycyrrhizin – is a sweet glycoside.
